Summary and Objective
Students will understand that there are many foods they eat today that have been around for a long time. Students will understand that many of the foods they enjoy today have an interesting beginning. Students will understand that they need to follow directions carefully when baking to have successful results.
Teaching Plan
Step 1.
Display a box of graham crackers for the students and have the students brainstorm what they know about them.
Step 2.
Have students go to the websites listed and take notes on the history of graham crackers and the person who invented them.
Step 3.
Look at the Graham Bread Recipe from "The New Hydropathic Cook-Book".
Step 4.
Students will compare the old recipe and new recipe and discuss similarities and differences between the two.
Step 5.
Prepare recipe for Honey Graham Crackers found on the website listed below, or you may choose from any of the variations of graham cracker recipes provided.
Step 6.
Enjoy graham crackers and discuss other favorite foods and their origin.
