Summary and Objective
Students will understand that materials used to make household items have changed over the last 250 years by comparing and contrasting items from today and the past.
Teaching Plan
Step 1.
The teacher will ask students to think about materials used to make household items, swaying them towards the items attached to this lesson, such as toys, tools, kitchenware, and clothing.
Step 2.
The teacher will make a chart of the items from the present and types of materials they are made from based on the students' suggestions.
Step 3.
The students will view and listen to the description of the items attached to this lesson with the teacher, and make a comparison list of the items and discuss the materials the items were made from.
Step 4.
After reviewing the chart as a group, the students will design their own toy using raw materials supplied by the teacher, such as cloth, wood, plastic, clay, and metal.
Step 5.
The students will share their toys and discuss the materials they used and tell why they chose those materials.
