Summary and Objective
Students will examine trades of the 19th century and discuss similarities and differences between those and early 21st century occupations. From discussions and research, students will gain an understanding of the ways in which earning a living has changed over the past 150 years.
***As an extension or follow-up, the class could create a book, complete with text and illustrations, describing the jobs of modern day individuals. Much like "Little Jack of All Trades", this newly created book would be appropriate for primary grade students.
Teaching Plan

Step 3.

Step 4.
***Extension: The class will choose the modern occupations which they wish to include in a book on present-day trades. Students will write the text so that it will appeal to primary grade students. They will make illustrations to accompany the text.
Step 5.
Students will edit each others work and make constructive suggestions.
Step 6.
A final copy will be shared with students in the primary grades.
