Framed photograph of original removed from Memorial Room exhibit 5/2004 and located in Works on Paper Storage Drawer 1. Label, "Deed dated February 24 1666-7 written by John Pynchon of Springfield stating the terms of the sale of 8,000 acres of Pocumtuck (now the towns of Deerfield, Greenfield and Gill) to the Dedham associates. Chaque, Sachem of Pocumtuck, not giving up use of the land, has "reserve Liberty of fishing for ye Indians in ye Rivers or waters & free Liberty to hunt Deere or other Wild creatures & go gather Walnuts chestnuts and other nuts things &c on ye commons" In signing this deed, the Pocumtucks believed they had reserved their right to live off the land.
