The trade card format was the most common type of advertisement used by local businesses. This early 20th century trade card illustrates a colorful, idyllic lithograph printed for the New Home Sewing Machine Company based out of Orange, Massachusetts. Baker and Clark started the company in 1867 with the production of two types of sewing machines, then reformed it in 1882 under the name New Home Sewing Machine Company. By the 1890's, the company was the largest employer in Franklin County, Massachusetts, with an annual production of over 100,000 machines. The technology revolutionized domestic sewing.
