The Pocumtuck Basket Makers of Deerfield, Massachusetts, employed the use of grasses and raffia to produce handcrafted baskets during the Arts and Crafts movement. Sweet grass was favored among Native American basket makers for its sweet smell, pliability and durability. Arts and Crafts artisans imitated Native American materials.
