Dwight Moody (1837-1899) was a famous and extremely successful Christian evangelist. He also believed strongly in the power of education, founding the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies in 1879 in Northfield, Massachusetts, and the Mount Hermon School for boys in 1881. Himself from a poor family, Moody was determined that no student should be turned away from the schools he founded simply because they could not afford to pay. In addition to a deliberately low tuition, Moody insisted on intensive study of the Bible and a student work program that helped keep the schools' costs down. Moody wished to instill habits of hard work in his students and believed in combining a vigorous outdoor life with study. This is a postcard of Seminary Farm at Northfield. The youthful driver has hitched his young team of oxen to a cart laden with playmates and a pet.
