The Mohawk Trail is 41 miles long, running from Greenfield to North Adams, Massachusetts. First traveled by aboriginal peoples of the northeast, it later became an important route connecting the western towns with the eastern parts of Massachusetts. At the turn of the 20th century, the Mohawk Trail became extremely popular for the panoramic views it offered travelers. Cooler temperatures generally prevail in this hilly region, making it an attractive environment for trees. The white birches, shown in this postcard, grow best in colder weather and higher elevations.
