These snowshoes are made of wood with wool tufts around their outer edges. They were made around 1875 to be sold to tourists. In the 19th century, Native Americans in New England made many items for sale to tourists such as wood splint fancy baskets in the shape of candlesticks, wastebaskets, and sewing baskets. These snowshoes are too small for a child to use and were meant as a decorative item or souvenir.
