A FARM, lying in SPENCER, about one mile and an half from the Meeting-House; containing 25 acres of good Land, nearly the whole under good improvement; consisting of Tillage, Mowing, Pasturage and a good Orchard, with a Dwelling-House, Cyder-Mill and House over it: Forty Dollars must be paid down, and the remainder may lye a number of years with good security, or, if it suits the purchaser, Publick securities will be received in payment.

The owner of this farm in Spencer makes a point of saying that he will accept public securities as part of the payment. By 1785, hard money was very difficult to come by and many people did not want to accept securities as payment for anything. The advertiser states that 40 dollars must be paid as a downpayment, but he fails to include the actual price for the farm.
