Williamsburg, Massachusetts was incorporated as a town in 1775. This picture of Main Street in Williamsburg shows 19th century buildings and an unpaved roadway. This road would become Massachusetts Route 9. During the early days of travel by automobile, this road would become an important route for tourists from the Connecticut River Valley on their way to the Berkshires.
