This flamboyantly dressed minstrel sings "When I was a little, tiny boy" to a 'familiar' melody, harking back to the supposedly easy folk life of Elizabethan England, which some Americans looked to in an effort to locate their "true" "racial" roots. Pageants were one of the few public spheres where women had directorial roles, giving them the authority to decide how men should dress and behave. Costumes like these were far from men's traditional attire in the 1910s.
