Margaret C. Whiting (1860-1946) posed with her hair in a fancy late-nineteenth century arrangement and wore a high-fashion silk dress with leg-o-mutton sleeves, ruffles, and a high neck. She co-authored Wild Flowers of the Northeast with fellow artist Ellen Miller in the year this photograph was taken. They founded the Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework the following year in 1896.
