Beadwork has a long and enduring tradition among the Kanien'kehaka (Mohawk) from Kahnawake, Mohawk Territory, Canada. This barrette is made of beads, leather, and a metal clip by Allison Tewesa McGregor. McGregor learned to do beadwork when she was eight years old, a tradition that is taught to children at Kahnawake as an after school activity beginning at age six. McGregor chose to decorate this barrette with a turtle design.
