Born in New York City in 1885, William Godfrey Watt graduated from the University of Vermont Medical College in 1912. After practicing medicine in Vergennes, Vermont, for five years, he enlisted in the United States Medical Reserve Corps. He served in England and France during World War I, reaching the rank of captain. After the war he continued his medical education in France, where he married. Watt established a medical practice in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, in 1922, and later practiced in Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts. Seen here holding his medical bag, Watt is about to get into an automobile he probably used to make house calls on patients.
