Lake Pleasant in Montague, Massachusetts, was a local tourist destination for those who enjoyed its peaceful setting and beautiful lake. The New England Spiritualist Association acquired the Lake Pleasant property in 1876. It became for the next half century an annual destination for thousands of Spiritualists who wished to combine the summer pleasures of camping with lectures on Spiritualism and seances conducted by certified mediums.
