Consider Dickinson (1761-1854) is best known in Deerfield, Massachusetts, as a successful farmer and as the man who left land for the new campus of Deerfield Academy. However, as a young man, after several years in the army, he spent time in Canada hunting and trapping for furs. This reminiscence of those times was recorded by Rodney B. Field, a great nephew of his first wife, Filana, and a descendant of one of the early families in Deerfield. This "adventure" recounts young Consider Dickinson's experiences in the untamed land around Lake Champlain in 1785.
