This chair of ash and maple, painted red and with a seat made of rush has lost the decorative urn and ball turnings on the back posts and it has been shortened. The Nims family of Deerfield, Massachusetts, owned it and gave it to the Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield in the year that the museum opened. The faded paint, shortened legs and missing finials of this locally made chair are signs of heavy use over several generations.
