Jane Marshall Wood (1833-1841) and her 2 sisters were 3 of the subjects of portrait artist, Ruth Henshaw Bascom. Mrs. Bascom lived in Phillipston and Ashby, Massachusetts. Between 1819 and 1848 she traveled around Massachusetts painting more than 1,100 such pictures. Her silhouettes were life-size, first drawn or cut out and mounted, and often with color added. The Wood sisters lived in the Factory Hollow section of Greenfield, Massachusetts.
