Instead of having plain boards above the fireplace or a painting hung there, this picture was painted right on the boards. Traveling artist Jared Jessup probably painted this scene of Boston Harbor. He was supposed to have been in the Bernardston, Massachusetts, area, around 1813. The sawn hole was one later owner's answer to fitting in a stovepipe.
