Bobbins hold thread. There are many different kinds; these were designed to hold thread for the making of lace. These bobbins belonged to Mrs. Anna McCartha (Williams) Howard. She was born in 1799 in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Ebenezer Hinsdale Williams and Joannah (Smith). In 1818 she married Charles Howard of Springfield, Masachusetts, where she lived at that time. When she died in July, 1822, she was back home in Deerfield. These bobbins, and a lacemaking pillow, were, in the words of the Memorial Hall Museum's record book, "her last work."
