Approximately 407,000 American service men and women died while serving in World War II (WWII), including 292,000 battle-related deaths and 115,000 other deaths. The total includes 79,000 who were missing in action and never recovered. Another 672,000 suffered non-fatal wounds. This is the WWII Disabled American Veterans card of Frank R. Dahowski, Jr. (1910-1988). Frank was employed by the Luey and Abercrombie grocery business of Greenfield before enlisting in 1942. During WWII he was an Army sergeant; due to his permanent debilitating war-time injury, he left the service as a disabled veteran, unable to work when he returned home. This card entitled Frank to medical and financial benefits.
