Cars from the 1920s are parked along the Common in the middle of the village of Deerfield. The Civil War monument, put up in 1867, is in the center of the picture. The special event pictured is the first open house, held to raise money for the Cemetery Association. More than 5000 visitors poured into town to see 15 of the old houses and the 100-year-old brick meetinghouse. $3700 was raised to care for the graveyard, part of which was to be used to help build a wall on the west side of the new cemetery [Laurel Hill].
