The carving on the front of this chest is found on both ends, like chests from Windsor, Connecticut. This chest, meant for storage of cloths such as sheets, blankets and tablecloths, was passed down through the Hoyt family of Windsor and reached Deerfield about 1682 with the arrival of David Hoyt (1651-1704). It stayed in the family until it was given to the museum in the late 19th century.
