The wreath decorated with flower shapes made of human hair was a popular "art" in the 19th century. This example was made by Mrs. Josiah Marvin of Brattleboro, Vermont, and framed in Northampton. Sentimental mementoes have always had a place in mankind's history. In the Victorian period, when most women had never had their hair cut, the hair was saved from brushing in special holders and then often transformed into hair wreaths similar to this one. This example is distinguished by the additional personalization of a photograph of the maker.
