Elsa Eager, niece of Deerfield, Massachusetts' famed pageant director Margaret MacLauren Eager, performed in fifteen of her aunt's pageants between 1910 and 1917. After 1912 at the age of nineteen, she became dance director for these pageants. Unlike other dance professionals, she worked exclusively on pageants and was never formally trained. As a result, she performed an older style of dancing utilizing props, which were not common in symbolic dancing of the time. Her interests were not artistic or educational; she simply sought to entertain and involve the community.
