The latest Ford models line the interior of George Fisher's garage in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. George Fisher is probably to the left, standing in front of one of six new 1912 Ford Model T Touring Editions. Henry Ford's 1912 model was the second-to-last built using the old methods: in August, 1913, he would begin the mass production of automobiles. Prior to this he had used some of these techniques, but the introduction of the moving assembly line cut production times from 12 1/2 hours to 1 1/2 hours per car. By January, 1914, Ford was producing 300,000 cars a year at a time when the rest of the industry - which at that point numbered hundreds of companies - was cutting back on production. Although this particular garage burned to the ground in 1935, the company rebuilt and, as of 2006, continued to thrive.
