Thirty pages of information about the town of Deerfield are included in this two-volume set about the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts. The individual entries were written by local residents and they trace the history of the land first occupied by Native peoples and the resulting wars after the coming of the English. The landscape, which made possible the productive agriculture of the Valley, is described in detail. The information contains data concerning the schools, the graveyards, and the factories built by the English settlers and includes the contributions made by an immigrant population that arrived in the late 19th century.
