On the night of February 29, 1704, the town of Deerfield, Massachusetts, was attacked by French and Indians. In the early morning, 112 captives were marched northward toward Canada, some to be taken all the way to Montreal or Quebec, others to turn more eastward to Odanak with the Eastern Abenaki. The map does not illustrate the terrain but it does delineate and name the lakes and rivers.
